This is Ashby Cottage in Long Compton. It's a Cotswold stone cottage down a quiet lane, so it's pretty peaceful. It was built in 1871, so the walls are thick and you get some original features, like an old baker's oven you can see in the living room. The front windows are those small paned ones.
It sleeps four people, with two bedrooms upstairs. There's one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable.
Now, the stairs. They're steep. They're cottage stairs, and they are a bit of a climb. Not a big deal, but worth knowing.
You've got a proper garden at the back, which is enclosed. There's parking right outside.
There's a pub about a five minute walk away. It's an old coaching inn and does good food. The village shop is a little further. For more choice, Stow-on-the-Wold or Chipping Norton are about ten minutes away by car.
If you like walking, you're sorted. The Macmillan Way goes through the village. The Rollright Stones are about a mile away. They’re an old stone circle from thousands of years ago. It's a nice short walk.
You can get to a lot of places from here. Stratford-upon-Avon is about half an hour north for Shakespeare's stuff. Oxford is similar time to the south. Blenheim Palace is in that direction too.
Other places nearby are Moreton-in-Marsh, Bourton-on-the-Water, and Broadway. All the classic Cotswold spots.
For days out, there are a few National Trust places within range, like Charlecote Park or Baddesley Clinton.
Inside, you've got the normal things: a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV, and the bed linen and towels are provided. You can bring up to two dogs.
