Miners Meadow is in Wheatley Hill, County Durham. It's a detached bungalow, so everything's on the ground floor. No steps at all, doors are wide, and there's parking right there.
It sleeps five in two bedrooms. Both have their own shower rooms. The main bedroom has two electric profiling beds, one's a small double and the other is a three-foot single. There's a hoist system, but you need to bring your own sling. The whole place is set up to be accessible, with light switches and sockets at a good height, but it's been done discreetly. It doesn't feel clinical.
The living space is open plan. Patio doors open to your own private garden with a table and chairs. There's also a terrace at the front with seats that look out over the meadow.
The meadow itself is the main thing. It's about ten acres. There's a stream, a pond with ducks, and deer sometimes come through. A ramped bridge goes over to a private island with a picnic shelter and a firepit. There are sculptures by a local artist, Ray Lonsdale, placed around the paths. It's very quiet.
Inside, there's a wood burner, a TV, WiFi, and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. Sorry, no pets.
Location wise, it's easy to get to the A1 and A19. Durham city is about a 15-minute drive. You've got the cathedral, the river walks, and all the shops and restaurants there.
Within half an hour you can be at Beamish Museum, which is a full day out. Or head east to the Durham Heritage Coast, about 20 minutes to Seaham for the marina and beaches.
A bit further, but still under an hour, you can get to the North York Moors, or Barnard Castle, or Whitby.
