The Garden Cottage

The Garden Cottage is a great base for a holiday on the Isle of Skye, perfect for a short break or a week. The owners are members of the Association of Scottish Self-Caterers and you can be assured of a great holiday. Situated on the outskirts of Portree, The Garden Cottage is only half a mile to the centre of town with its attractive harbour, characterful streets and numerous restaurants and hotels and food outlets. There is use of an electric vehicle charge point at the property for guests with hybrid or EV’s at cost price. Being on the edge of Portree and set in the mature gardens of Kiltaraglen House gives enviable views to the Cuillins and of the surrounding Scottish moorland hills, typical of northern Skye. The best of both worlds, and an ideal base for relaxing after exploring the island. Portree is centrally located on Skye and a great starting point to explore the various ‘wings’ of the island. Only five minutes from the Old Man of Storr and fifteen from the Kilt Rock, Mealt Falls and on to the Quirang and the other highlights of the Trotternish peninsula. That’s just for starters, to the west you have the joys of the Waternish, Duirinish and Minginish peninsulas to explore too, each with their own charm and all with fabulous views.
Blessed with superb fine dining, gourmets can choose from The Three Chimneys, Edinbane Inn, Lochbay Seafood restaurant, Kinloch Lodge and a multitude of wonderful restaurants, coffee shops and cafés Skye has several renowned distilleries; Talisker perhaps the best known. The Fairy Pools are close to Carbost and the distillery and visiting them edges you into the Cuillin Mountains. The Cuillin are only nine miles south of Portree, and are often visible from the town and the gardens at Kiltaraglen. There are countless routes to be walked and climbed throughout the island, some well-known others peaceful gems. A highlight that many don’t make time for is a trip to Loch Coruisk hidden away in the heart of the Black Cuillin. You can walk to the loch, but it’s a long and arduous journey. Better to drive to Elgol in the south of the island and take a boat into the mountains. It’s a magical, misty tour! The south of the island is very different to the north, but still worth exploring. Elgol is picture perfect, and beyond the mountains the Garden of Skye; the Sleat Peninsula awaits with its crofting settlements and hidden beaches. The Garden Cottage is truly the ideal base for a Skye holiday. Beach 7 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.
