Primrose

This is Primrose. It's a small bungalow cottage near Scruton, which is just outside Northallerton. The cottage used to be a farm building, so it's solid stone. It's part of a pair, but you get your own enclosed garden and there's parking right next to it.

It's just for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 5 Star rating, which means it's well fitted and comfortable. Everything is on the ground floor. There's a wood burning stove, which is nice in the evening, and underfloor heating. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a washing machine.

The location is good for getting about. You're about five minutes from the A1, so it's easy to head into the Dales or over to the North York Moors. Northallerton is the nearest proper town, about ten minutes by car. They've got supermarkets and shops. For a farm shop, there's one about a five minute walk up the lane.

There's a golf course nearby, and fishing locally if that's your thing. The closest pub that does food is in Ainderby Quernhow, maybe a mile and a half away.

If you want a day out, you can be in the Yorkshire Dales near Leyburn or Richmond in under half an hour. Ripon and its cathedral are about twenty minutes south. For something different, The Forbidden Corner up near Middleham is a strange sort of garden with follies. It's popular, you need to book. About a 25 minute drive. Further out, York or Harrogate are both around an hour.
