Kilbride Cottage

Kilbride Cottage is in West Kilbride on South Uist. It's a one bedroom place, sleeps two. It was built in 1909, been done up since.

It's on a working croft, so you'll see sheep, some ducks and chickens wandering about. The garden is yours to use. The view is over the fields to the sea.

The cottage has a 4 Star rating. It's cosy, not huge, but it's been restored well. Everything works. There's one bathroom with a shower. The WiFi is okay for checking things, but it's not super fast, this is a remote island.

You're about a quarter of a mile from the beach. The sand is white, it's very quiet. The pub and a restaurant are half a mile up the road. The shop is three miles away in Daliburgh, so you'll want to bring your main shop with you on the ferry.

All the islands here are linked by causeway now, so you can drive from one end to the other easily. Eriskay is just over the causeway, and you can get the ferry from there to Barra for a day trip. Lochmaddy has the Uist Outdoor Centre if you want to try sea kayaking or book a wildlife boat trip.

You'll see a lot of birds. Otter spotting is possible if you're patient and quiet. The machair, the grassy plain by the coast, is covered in wildflowers in the summer. It's a different kind of dramatic in the winter, very quiet and dark skies.

Facilities: it's got a washing machine, TV, parking right outside. Bedding and towels are included. No pets allowed, because of the croft animals.
