The Retreat is in Nether Wasdale. It's a ground floor apartment in a quiet part of the valley. You've got your own garden out the front, which is enclosed.
It sleeps four. One double room, one twin, and one bathroom with a walk-in shower. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's all on one level, so no stairs, and the doorways are wide enough for wheelchair access. The main living area is open plan. The kitchen's part of that room. It's got everything you need.
You're right in it here. The fells are all around you. Wast Water is a short walk away. The Screes across the lake look massive when the sun hits them. You'll probably see Herdwick sheep in the field next door.
There are two pubs about two and a half miles away in Nether Wasdale. One of them has a micro-brewery. Gosforth village has a few more places to eat, about five miles off. The nearest proper shop is there too.
For walking, you can go straight from the door. The path along Wast Water is stunning. If you want to tackle Scafell Pike, you drive to Wasdale Head. It's the most direct route up. From Easter to October, there's a free bus called the Wasdale Wanderer. It stops outside and goes to Wasdale Head, Ravenglass, and Muncaster Castle.
Muncaster Castle is about a twenty-minute drive. They've got gardens, bird of prey displays, and a maze. The coast at Ravenglass is about the same distance. It's a proper estuary with a sandy beach and a small Roman fort.
The place has WiFi, a TV, and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right outside. No pets, I'm afraid.
