The Retreat

The Retreat is a ground floor apartment in Nether Wasdale. It's in a converted farm building. You get your own bit of garden.

It's a 4 Star place, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped. It sleeps four. There are two bedrooms, one double and one twin. One proper bathroom with a walk-in shower. The whole apartment is wheelchair accessible from the parking spot.

The main room is open plan. Kitchen, dining area, and living space all together. It's got a washing machine, TV, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included.

You're right in the valley here. The view from the front is straight up at the Screes, which is the steep side of Wast Water. Herdwick sheep are often in the fields around, so you'll need to shut the gate. It's very quiet.

There are two pubs in Nether Wasdale village, about two and a half miles away. One has a micro-brewery. The shop is in Gosforth, five miles away.

You can walk from the door. The shore of Wast Water is a short walk. The views down the lake to the fells, including Scafell Pike, are the main event. For a different day, Muncaster Castle is about a 20-minute drive. They have gardens and bird of prey displays.

The Cumbrian coast is about half an hour away. St Bees or Seascale are good for a beach walk. It's a different feel from the mountains.

Useful links: Lake District National Park for walking maps and information, and National Trust Lake District for their nearby properties.

No pets, sorry. There's parking right outside the door.
