Bramblefield Cottage

This is Bramblefield Cottage. It's in Compton, which is a quiet village over in Berkshire. It's a terraced cottage, part of a small row, but it's got its own enclosed garden out the back. It's very quiet.

The cottage sleeps four. There are two bedrooms. One has a kingsize bed that can be split into two singles if you ask beforehand. The other has bunk beds. There's one bathroom, which is on the ground floor. It has a walk-in shower, not a bath.

You need to know about the steps. There are four steps down from the path to the front door. Then inside, there are two more steps going down from the hall into the living room. It's not a problem, you just need to be aware of it.

It's got a 4 Star rating. That means it's well-equipped and comfortable. There's a wood burner in the living room, and a Smart TV. The kitchen has a dishwasher, and there's a utility room with a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right outside, and an electric vehicle charger.

You can bring up to two dogs. The garden is enclosed, but it's not huge. It's fine for a bit of fresh air.

Compton itself is small. There's a good pub, The Walnut Tree, within walking distance. For shops, you'll need to drive to Newbury, which is about four miles. Newbury has everything: supermarkets, the racecourse, a cinema. The Visit Berkshire site is useful for ideas.

If you like walking, the countryside around here is good for it. The River Lambourn valley is nice. For a day out, Highclere Castle, where they filmed Downton Abbey, is about a 20 minute drive. Basildon Park, which is National Trust, is about 25 minutes away. The National Trust page for this area has details.

That's about it. It's a straightforward place in a quiet spot, handy for seeing things in Berkshire and Oxfordshire.
