The village of Churchtown is just 1 mile and offers a good range of amenities, including specialist shops, charming cafés, pubs, a golf club and the Botanic gardens with a lake, mini golf and aviary. Southport itself is just 2½ miles and is home to many attractions including the second longest pier in the UK, a small amusement park, great shopping, and a good selection of cafés and restaurants. You’ll find lovely local walks and as much of the area is flat there are several tourist cycling routes.
Southport has a reputation for being England’s golfing capital, being home to Royal Birkdale, plus having several more championship courses within a 15-minute drive of the town centre, including Ainsdale and Hillside. The Old Links Golf Club is 5 minutes’ drive from The Manor House. Southport Municipality Golf Course is a 10 minutes’ drive away. For bird enthusiasts Martin Mere Wildlife and Wetlands is a 15-minute journey and visits can be booked online. Southport plays host to a wide selection of events ranging from the National Fireworks Display and an air show, to jazz, food, and drink festivals. It also boasts 22 miles of beautiful coastline, including the rolling sandy dunes of Formby, and the Anthony Gormley statues at Crosby.
Outside of Southport, the city of Liverpool can be reached in approximately an hour by car or 45 minutes by train, with Chester and Manchester not much further. The southern Lake District and Lancashire’s beautiful Ribble Valley can also be reached in just over an hour.
