This is The Old Stables. It’s in Howwood, Renfrewshire, so it’s easy for getting into Glasgow or out towards the countryside.
It’s a two-bedroom place, sleeps four, all on one floor. It used to be a stable but it’s been done up. You've got your own entrance and parking. The main room is open plan, kitchen, living and dining area together. Two big windows look out over the courtyard and fields.
We put in a wood burner. It’s effective, heats the whole place. The shower is a walk-in one. There’s a washing machine and dishwasher. Beds are good quality, we use decent bedding.
Howwood village is a few minutes’ walk. There are two pubs and a general store there. The Bowfield Country Club is nearby if you want a meal out. For a big shop, Johnstone is three miles away.
The train station in the village goes to Paisley and Glasgow. By car, Glasgow’s about half an hour for shops and galleries. If you head north, you can be at Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park in roughly 30 minutes. Stirling with its castle is about 45 minutes’ drive.
Outside, there’s a patio area for you. You can store bikes. The area is good for walking or cycling straight from the door. There’s local fishing and golf if that’s your thing.
