The Cottage

Oakham and Uppingham are the local market towns, about ten minutes' drive. They have shops and cafes. Stamford is a bit further, maybe twenty minutes. It's a very nice old town.
If you want a day out, there are several big houses and castles within half an hour. Burghley House is probably the most famous. For details on places like that, the National Trust and English Heritage sites are helpful for planning.
