The Folly

The Folly is in Greetham, in Rutland. It's a Grade II listed place, built by the local stonemason. You can see his work everywhere, the stonework outside and all the finishing touches inside.

It sleeps up to six, but it's two main bedrooms, both with their own bathrooms. Then there's a sofa bed in the living room and another shower room downstairs. So it works for a few friends or a family, but the layout might suit a group where the couple takes a bedroom and others use the sofa bed.

There's a seating area out the front. You can eat there, look at the building. The kitchen has handmade units.

The village has two pubs, both do food. Good for an evening meal without driving.

Rutland Water is only a few minutes away by car. You can sail, cycle, walk, or go birdwatching there. Barnsdale Gardens is nearby and worth visiting. The market towns are Oakham, Uppingham, and Stamford. They have the usual shops and cafes.

For a bigger day out, there are several historic houses within about a 30 minute drive. Burghley House near Stamford is probably the most famous.

Facilities: It's got a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. The entrance is wheelchair accessible, but it's an old stone cottage so inside there might be steps or level changes. It's wise to ask for specifics if that's important.
