Hilbre

Hilbre is a lodge near Strachur, on the shore of Loch Fyne. It's detached. The view from the living room and the decking is straight down the loch.

It sleeps six, in three bedrooms, with one bathroom. The rating is 5 Star. It's well looked after and comfortable. The stairs are standard, not a steep cottage style.

You can have up to two dogs. The garden is enclosed, but it's not totally escape-proof for a very determined dog, so you'd need to keep an eye on them.

The hot tub is on a raised deck. It's private and has that same view over the loch.

There's a shop, post office and cafe directly across the road. The pub, the Creggans Inn, is a five minute walk. If the tide's out, you can walk along the beach. If it's in, you just go by the road.

The location is good for getting outside. You can launch kayaks or paddleboards from the shore opposite. There are plenty of forest walks right from the door. For a bigger day out, you're close to the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.

Inveraray is about a twenty-five minute drive. You've got the castle and the old jail there. The ferry at Colintraive to the Isle of Bute is about fifteen minutes away. The gardens at Crarae and Benmore are worth a trip if that's your thing.

For facilities, it's got a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and a wood burner. Bedding and towels are included. Parking is right there for a couple of cars.

If you're planning, the Visit Argyll and the Isles site has good information.
