The Lodge On The Beach is just outside Auchenmalg village. It's a log cabin on an eight acre field, right by the shore. You can see the water from the windows. The beach is about thirty yards from your door. It's pebbly and sandy, good for kids. There's a wooden deck out the front to sit on.
It sleeps six, but there are two bedrooms, so it's a bunk room and a double, then a sofa bed in the living space. One bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's a modern cabin, so everything works. It's all on one level, which is handy. The entrance and the shower are wheelchair friendly.
You can bring two dogs. The field is fenced, but it's not totally secure so you'd need to keep an eye on them.
The local pub is in the village, a five minute walk up the lane. It does food. For a shop, you need to drive to Glenluce, about five minutes away, or Stranraer which is twenty minutes for bigger supermarkets.
The location is the main thing. You're right on the coast. It's quiet. Good for walking straight from the door. For a proper day out, the Mull of Galloway is about half an hour's drive. It's the southern tip of Scotland. There's a lighthouse and you can watch the birds. The RSPB run it: RSPB Mull of Galloway.
Wigtown, the book town, is about twenty five minutes inland. Portpatrick is a nice little harbour, about forty minutes drive round the coast.
Inside, it's got what you'd expect. Washing machine, dishwasher, TV, WiFi. All the bedding and towels are there. Plenty of parking right outside.
