Only a few minutes’ drive from the charming town of Pitlochry in Perthshire and surrounded by mature woodland, Upper Tomnabrachd is a traditional Highland cottage, easily accessible from the A9. Built in the Victorian era, it was once part of the grand Blair Atholl Estate and was renovated in 2020 by the owners, to provide up-to-date facilities whilst retaining that period charm. It is perfect for nature-lovers, couples and small families with older children, wishing to explore rural Perthshire and enjoy day trips further afield.
Set on a quiet rural road high above the A9, Upper Tomnabrachd enjoys views over its own natural woodland garden, over woodlands and toward Dunfallandy Hill above the winding River Tummel. Guests will enjoy viewing wildlife from the cottage windows, including deer, squirrels and woodland birds. Lovingly furnished by the owners, there is a well-equipped modern kitchen and the welcoming living room is made extra cosy by its wood burner. The natural garden enjoys sun almost all day, with two sheltered sitting out areas where you can sit quietly and enjoy the wildlife in the surrounding woodland.
Here you are just 2 miles from the centre of Pitlochry with its many cafés, shops, restaurants and bars. Well worth a visit in Pitlochry is the Festival Theatre, Faskally Woods and Pitlochry Putting Green, Salmon Ladder and Dam, and the Enchanted Forest in October. There’s an 18-hole golf course on the outskirts of the town with views of the Tummel Valley and great salmon fishing to be had on the River Tummel.
Upper Tomnabrachd is a perfect base for exploring the surrounding area with lots of hiking, mountain biking, river rafting in the nearby hills and pretty glens to enjoy. You are right in the middle of the Tay Forest Park, a patchwork of forests throughout the area, often close to picturesque lochs, with viewpoints, visitor centres and walks for all abilities. The area is abundant with incredible things to do and see including the Cairngorms National Park, Killiecrankie, Loch of the Lowes Wildlife Reserve, Dunkeld Cathedral, Blair Castle, Castle Menzies, Scone Palace and House of Bruar. With easy access to the A9, the cities of Perth, Dundee and Edinburgh are popular for interesting days out.
