This scenic area of central Scotland has been attracting visitors for hundreds of years and Beatrix Potter spent many holidays in the area, developing her love of nature and wildlife. The Cottar House was occupied by Kitty MacDonald, a laundress according to the census at the time, and thought to be the inspiration for The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle. There is an indoor Beatrix Potter themed play snug with soft toys, skittles, books and DVDs to keep younger children happy on days spent indoors.
