Ascog is a small residential coastal village on the Island of Bute, close to the main town of Rothesay which is a charming small coastal town and ferry port. It has many interesting shops, cafés, restaurants and attractions. There is an excellent tourist office in the Discovery Centre, which also houses an exhibition about the Isle of Bute. Bute is only 33 miles from Glasgow and is one of the most accessible of the westerly islands from the Scottish Central Belt. 15 miles long and 5 miles across at its widest point, the island is home to many historical sites including Rothesay Castle and Mount Stuart House, beautiful gardens and walks for all abilities including the West Island Way. There are three golf courses on the island as well as horse riding, sailing, kayaking, and fishing. Beach 10 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.
