Tollgate House
There are holiday properties, and then there’s Tollgate House! Stunningly located on Llandudno’s quiet West Shore at the end of Marine Drive, this stone property was built in 1875 as one of a pair of toll houses to collect the tolls from people travelling around the Great Orme on the picturesque Marine Drive. Beautifully renovated, it is just over the road from the lovely sandy beach, and is a wonderful place to stay. With glorious views from the west-facing windows you can enjoy the sunsets and the views over to the beautiful Isle of Anglesey. Beds are dressed with sumptuous linen providing you with the perfect place to truly relax. There are security cameras located at the property and the owners also live on-site so your safety is a high priorty. Stroll around the Great Orme along the 4 mile long Marine Drive, taking in spectacular views of seabirds on the cliffs, the amazing rock formations, and on a clear day, you can even see the Isle of Man. There’s a lovely little café halfway round too where you can stop for a coffee.
At the far end is Llandudno Pier at 2, 295ft it’s Wales’ longest pier, and is at one end of the spacious North Shore Promenade. Here you will find Punch and Judy Shows, the Great Orme Tramway and the Great Orme cable car, the longest one in the UK. The restaurant quarter of town is in Upper Mostyn Street, just behind the Promenade and the town centre and has a range of individual shops and national names too, plus it’s only a mile or so taking the direct route back to the lovely Tollgate House.
Visit the Venue Cymru Theatre where you might perhaps catch a visiting West End show, listen to a Welsh choir performing in a local church, or pop down the road to historic Conwy and marvel at the majestic Conwy Castle and town walls built by Edward I . Stroll along the quay, pop in to visit Britain’s smallest house, take a boat trip into the Conwy Estuary, or visit the historic houses of Aberconwy House, National Trust, or Plas Mawr . You can catch a wave, or just a coffee at the incredible Surf Snowdonia, the world’s first inland surfing lagoon or take in the floral abundance at the lovely National Trust garden at Bodnant. Snowdonia National Park, Betws-y-Coed, Isle of Anglesey and Mount Snowdon itself are all within easy reach. There’s so much to do in the area, you’ll be breathless just standing still!
