The Ivy Wing is part of a bigger house called Barrock House, up near the top of Scotland. It's one of two places in the courtyard, so there might be other guests around. It's quiet here, surrounded by old trees and gardens. You get your own patio area.
It sleeps five people. Three bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's comfortable and clean but not a luxury hotel. The heating works fine.
You're a short drive from two good beaches, Sinclair Bay and Dunnet Bay. Both are sandy and big. The Castle of Mey is very close, that was the Queen Mother's place here. John O'Groats is about 15 minutes away. It's mostly a photo opportunity, but the drive there is nice.
If you want to go over to Orkney, the car ferry from Gills Bay or Scrabster is easy for a day trip. You can see the Old Man of Hoy from the coast on a clear day. Thurso is the nearest proper town for bigger shops, about a 20 minute drive.
The local shop and a pub are in Lyth, about five miles away. They do meals. For other places to eat, you'd drive into Wick or Thurso.
Included in the place: all the bedding and towels, the washing machine, a cot and highchair if needed, and parking right outside. You can bring up to two dogs. There's a wood burning stove, and you get some wood to start you off. The wifi is okay for checking things, but it's not super fast broadband.
