Caldon Cottage is in Cromarty, on the Black Isle. It's a detached house with a decent bit of garden around it. The garden is enclosed, so it's safe for dogs and kids. There's a wood-fired hot tub out there. It's sheltered by old walls, and the weather here is often milder than you'd expect for the Highlands. You can sit outside a fair bit.
The cottage sleeps six. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. One bedroom and a toilet are on the ground floor. There's also a stairlift to get up to the main bathroom, which is on the first floor. That's handy if stairs are a problem for anyone. The stairs themselves are normal.
Inside, it's comfortable. There's a woodburning stove in the living room. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. We leave a cot and a highchair there too.
Cromarty is a small town. It's a conservation area, so the buildings are old and interesting. You can walk to the harbour in a few minutes. There's a Stevenson lighthouse at the point. You'll often see bottlenose dolphins in the firth from the shore. For a closer look, you can get boat trips from the harbour. The town has a couple of good places to eat, a small community cinema, and a few independent shops.
If you drive, Fortrose and Rosemarkie are about 20 minutes away. Chanonry Point there is another famous spot for watching dolphins. The mountain biking trails at Learnie Red Rocks, run by Forestry and Land Scotland, are very good and about a 15-minute drive. The Black Isle Brewery is nearby if that's of interest.
The cottage has parking. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome.
