Caldon Cottage

Caldon Cottage is in Cromarty, on the Black Isle. It's a modern, detached cottage, good for six people. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. It has a 4 Star rating. The place is clean and well set up.

Downstairs has a bedroom and a large toilet, and there's a stairlift to get you up to the family bathroom if you need it. The stairs themselves are fine. Upstairs there's a kingsize double and another bedroom where the two singles can be zipped together for a super king.

The garden is enclosed, which is good if you're bringing dogs. You're allowed two. There's a wood-fired hot tub and a pizza oven out there, and the old walls make it a bit sheltered. Cromarty is generally milder than a lot of the Highlands, so you might actually use it.

Inside, the kitchen is well stocked. There's a log burner in the living room. It's warm and there's space for everyone. We provide bedding and towels. There's a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking on site.

Cromarty itself is a small town with some good places to eat and a few independent shops. There's a well-regarded coffee shop. They have a small community cinema too. The harbour is a couple of hundred yards away. You'll see Stevenson lighthouse.

You can often spot dolphins from the shore. For a closer look, you can get boat trips from the harbour. The Cromarty Firth is a busy waterway, so you'll see shipping, including oil and gas rigs when they're in. It's a bit of a mix, old Georgian buildings and big industrial kit.

If you want to explore, Chanonry Point near Fortrose is another famous dolphin watching spot. Fortrose and Rosemarkie are about 20 minutes by car. There's a well-known golf course there. For mountain biking, the Learnie Red Rock trails from Forestry Scotland are very good and about a 15-minute drive. The Black Isle Brewery is worth a visit.

You're on the edge of the North Coast 500 route here, so it's a good base if you're planning to drive that. Inverness is about 30 minutes away for bigger shops or the airport.
