Kirnan Cottage is in Kilmichael Glassary, up near Lochgilphead. It’s a detached house so there are no neighbours attached. You get the place to yourselves.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms and one bathroom. The downstairs one is a shower room. There’s a king bedroom on the ground floor, which is handy. The other two are upstairs. The hallways and bedrooms have the original wood-panelled walls, which we like. It’s got a 3 Star rating. It’s clean and comfortable, not modern-luxury.
The garden is large and fully enclosed. There’s a patio and a BBQ. Parking is on-site.
Inside, there’s a lounge, kitchen and dining area. It has its original walk-in pantry, which is useful. We leave a welcome hamper, and basics like tea and coffee. There’s a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. We have a cot and highchair if you need them.
The water comes from a natural spring on the land. It’s filtered and tested every year. It tastes very clean.
For eating out, there’s an excellent pub and restaurant about a two-mile walk away. It’s a flat walk. The nearest shop is in Lochgilphead, about six miles.
The area is quiet and rural. The River Add is close by. You’re surrounded by old sites: standing stones, burial cairns, and ruined forts. There are good forest trails for walking or mountain biking. The Crinan Canal towpath is about six miles away and is flat for easy cycling. There’s local fishing if that’s your thing.
Lochgilphead has a golf course. For a day out, you can drive to the coast at Crinan or go south to the Kintyre peninsula. Oban is about 34 miles for ferries to Mull and the islands. Inveraray, with its castle and jail, is also within a half hour’s drive.
