Dunardry View

Dunardry View is on the side of a small hill, just outside Lochgilphead. It's an old miner's cottage that looks down over the Crinan Canal. You can see the locks from the garden.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a basic 3 Star rating, so it's clean and tidy rather than luxurious. As you'd expect in a small cottage, the bathroom is downstairs. The shower is fine. The stairs go straight up and are a bit steep.

The garden is enclosed, so it's safe for dogs. It gets the afternoon sun. There's parking right outside the door.

Inside, there's a stove in the living room. It's efficient but takes a bit of learning. There's a starter bag of logs provided. You get bedding and towels. There's a washing machine, a dishwasher, and WiFi. The TV is fine.

The canal towpath is about a two minute walk from the gate. It's flat, and you can walk for miles north or south, or just watch the boats going through the locks. Crinan Ferry beach is four miles away. It's a good spot for swimming or paddling when the tide is in.

For a shop or a pub, you need to drive into Lochgilphead, which is about two miles. It's a small town with supermarkets, takeaways, and a few pubs and restaurants. Kilmartin Glen is a must if you like old stones and history. It's full of standing stones and burial cairns, all just sitting in the fields. It's about a ten minute drive.

You're right in the middle for exploring Argyll. Crinan Harbour and the sea lock are three miles west. Inveraray Castle is about half an hour north. Tarbert, on Loch Fyne, is about twenty minutes south. If you want to go down the Kintyre peninsula, it all starts just south of Lochgilphead.

The cottage is suited to two people and two pets, maximum.

If you're planning walks or days out, the National Trust for Scotland for Kintyre and Argyll site has good information. Historic Environment Scotland looks after lots of sites in Argyll, including many in Kilmartin Glen.
