Fox Lodge Fenton

This is Fox Lodge in Fenton. It's on the edge of a village called Pidley, on a big working farm. The owners live on site. You get to it down a rough track. It's very quiet and the views are good, just fields and big skies.

It's a semi-detached lodge. Sleeps five. Two bedrooms and one shower room. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well-equipped. The living area is open-plan with French doors to your own patio. You look out over a private fishing lake.

The main thing here is the fishing. You have your own platform right in front of the lodge. The lake has specimen carp, up to about 28 pounds. If you're not into fishing, it's still nice to sit and watch the water. There's a cafe and tackle shop on the farm itself.

The place is all on the ground floor. It's accessible, but you should check the specifics if wheelchair access is important. There's parking right there.

You can bring one dog. There are loads of footpaths and bridleways from the farm to walk. There's a wetland area too, good for birdwatching.

For shops and a proper meal, you'll need to drive. The nearest pub is about two miles. St Ives is five miles away. It's a nice old market town on the river, with shops and places to eat. From there you can get the guided bus into Cambridge, which takes about half an hour. Cambridge is worth a trip for the colleges and the river.

Golf is within a ten-minute drive. That's about it. It's a place for being outside, or for sitting still. If you want busy, you'll need to go further afield.
