Southlake Barn is in Dousland on the edge of Dartmoor. It's a stone barn conversion. You're down a private lane so it's quiet, and the views are of open fields.
It sleeps four in two bedrooms. There's one bathroom. The living room and kitchen are upstairs. You get out to a decked balcony from there. Because of that, you go up some external wooden steps to get in. They're fine, but something to know if you've got bags.
Inside, it's a 4 Star place. It's light and clean, with a woodburning stove. You get bedding and towels. There's a dishwasher and a washing machine, WiFi, and parking right there. We allow two dogs.
The village has a pub. For more, you're about two miles from a shop, a garage, and a couple of cafes. Tavistock is six miles away. It's a proper town with a good market.
You're a mile from Burrator Reservoir. It's good for a walk or a run. Then you're straight onto Dartmoor. It's all there for walking, cycling, or riding. If you want to ride, there are local places that do hire.
For planning, the Dartmoor National Park Authority site is useful. So is the National Trust Devon page for places like Cotehele or the coast, which is about half an hour's drive.
