Rockworks Chalets No.4

Rockworks Chalets No.4 is in St Mary's on the Orkney mainland. It's one of a row of semi-detached chalets right on the shore of Scapa Flow. You look out over the water towards the Italian Chapel.

It's a 4 Star chalet, so it's well-equipped and comfortable. It sleeps four in two bedrooms, one double and one twin. There's one bathroom with a shower. The layout is open plan, so the kitchen, living and dining area are all together. The big window makes it bright, even when the weather's, well, Orkney. It can get windy.

You're a few minutes' walk from a cafe and gallery in one of the other buildings. The nearest shop is about half a mile. The pub and a restaurant are five miles away in Kirkwall.

For the big sights, you're very well placed. You can see the Churchill Barriers from the chalet. The Italian Chapel is practically opposite. Kirkwall, with St Magnus Cathedral, is a short drive. The Neolithic sites, like the Ring of Brodgar and the Stones of Stenness, are about a twenty minute drive. You can get there for sunrise or sunset without too much hassle.

Stromness is a lovely harbour town, about a twenty minute drive. Good for a wander and a coffee by the water.

If you like walking, the coastal paths are spectacular. Yesnaby is a highlight on this island. You can get the ferry to Hoy from Stromness to see the Old Man of Hoy. The local fishing is famous, both trout in the lochs and sea fishing. You can cast a line from the shore here.

Facilities: WiFi, TV, parking right outside, a washing machine, bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair if needed. There's a patio area with seating.
