The Hen Hoose

This is The Hen Hoose near Langshaw. It's on a working farm, so there's a bit of farm noise sometimes, but it's quiet overall. We keep hens, so if you want some fresh eggs in the morning, just let me know.

It's a bungalow, so everything is on one level, which is handy. Detached, so you've got your own space. Sleeps four in two bedrooms, and there are two bathrooms, both with showers. It's got a 3 Star rating. That means it's comfortable and clean, but it's not a show home.

The garden is a good size with a patio and a barbecue you can use. Inside it's open plan. There's a woodburning stove for cosy evenings. It's got the usual stuff: TV, WiFi, dishwasher, washing machine. All the bedding and towels are there.

There's a shop and a pub about five miles away in Melrose. They're both good. Melrose itself is nice for a wander, has some decent places to eat, and you've got the Abbey there.

If you like walking, you're in a good spot. The Eildon Hills are there and you're near bits of the Southern Upland Way and the Borders Abbey Way. For cycling, Glentress Forest with all its trails is about a 20 minute drive. You can hire bikes there.

Other things nearby: Abbotsford House, Sir Walter Scott's old place, is just down the road by the Tweed. You can get the train to Edinburgh from Galashiels, which takes about an hour.

Useful links if you're planning: Walkhighlands for Borders walks and Forestry and Land Scotland for Glentress.
