Dalvista Cottage is in Liurbost on the Isle of Lewis. It's a detached house, so no neighbours joined on. It's in a small settlement, basically a few houses along a road, with open land all around.
It sleeps eight. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and well-equipped. It's a modern build, so the stairs aren't the steep, winding kind you sometimes get. Everything works as you'd expect.
The garden is enclosed, which is good if you've got kids or a dog. We don't take pets, though. There's parking right there.
Inside, it's got a woodburning stove for chilly evenings, a dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. We've also got a cot, highchair, and stairgate if you need them.
The location is quiet. You're a couple of miles from a shop. The nearest pub and restaurant are about eleven miles away in Stornoway, so it's best to plan meals in. You'll want to arrive with some supplies.
You're right in the middle of the island here, so it's a good base for exploring. The west coast beaches, like Dalbeg or Dalmore, are about a twenty-minute drive. The sand is white and the water is clear. You'll often have a big beach to yourselves. The machair, the flower-covered grassland behind the beaches, is full of birds in summer.
Stornoway is twenty-five minutes by car. That's where you'll find bigger supermarkets, a leisure centre, and most of the restaurants. Lews Castle grounds are good for a walk. The Callanish Standing Stones are about half an hour's drive. They're impressive, even if you're not usually into that sort of thing.
If you're here for wildlife, you can see a lot from the coast. Seals are common. You might see otters or golden eagles. Boat trips for spotting things go from various points, like Miavaig or Stornoway.
The weather changes quickly. You can get four seasons in one day. If it's clear at night, you might see the Northern Lights, especially in winter. There's little light pollution here.
