Avenel Cottage is on the edge of the Old Lochside Estate, near Town Yetholm. It's semi-detached and south-facing, so it gets good light. The main thing is the view, which is over the loch towards the Cheviot Hills. You can sit in the living room and look straight out at it.
It sleeps five. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. The main bedroom has a kingsize bed and a single bed in it. The second bedroom has a three-quarter double bed. There's a cupboard in there full of teddy bears, which I think came with the place. The garden at the back is enclosed and gets the sun. You can get straight onto the paths by the loch from there.
It's a 3 Star place. That means it's comfortable and clean, not luxury. There's a woodburning stove for cooler evenings, a washing machine, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking on the drive. You can bring up to two dogs.
The location is quiet. The nearest shop and pubs are in Town Yetholm, about two and a half miles away. For more choice, Kelso is seven miles. It's a nice town with places to eat and the old abbey. Jedburgh and Melrose are a short drive further on, both worth a visit.
You're well placed for getting out. The coast at Northumberland, Holy Island, and the Farne Islands are all doable for a day trip. There are plenty of castles and country houses around here too. If you want to plan ahead, the Scottish Borders site has good information, and for the coastal trips, the Northumberland Coast pages are useful.
