Birch Cottage

Birch Cottage is one of three old shepherd's cottages on our sheep farm. It's in Byrness, right in the Northumberland National Park. The view from the front looks out over Whitelee Fell.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well kept. We've renovated it but kept the character. There are beams in the living room ceiling and an inglenook fireplace with a multi-fuel stove. The bathroom has a power shower.

There's a wildlife camera on the farm that feeds to the TV in the cottage. You can switch it on and sometimes see badgers or barn owls.

The garden is enclosed, which is good for dogs. We allow up to three pets. There's parking right outside and an electric vehicle charger.

You're in the National Park so walking starts from the door. Kielder Forest is close by for cycling or a trip to the observatory. The Roman Wall, like Housesteads, is about a 40-minute drive. Lindisfarne is just over an hour. Alnwick Castle and gardens are about 50 minutes. You can be in Edinburgh or Newcastle in around an hour and a half if you fancy a city day.

For shops and a pub, Otterburn or Jedburgh are the nearest, both about 15 minutes by car.

The cottage has a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and satellite TV. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot, highchair, and stairgate if you need them.
