Doorstones Cottage is near Grains Bar. It’s on the edge of Saddleworth, about halfway between Uppermill and Greenfield. The cottage is semi-detached, part of a small row. There’s on-site parking for one car and a little garden at the back.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. There’s a kingsize in one room and the other has a double-over-double bunk bed. It’s rated 4 Star so it’s comfortable and everything works. The stairs are cottage stairs, so they’re steep.
The kitchen has a dishwasher and washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There’s a highchair and a cot if you need them. We take one well-behaved dog.
A couple of pubs are within walking distance. The nearest shop is a short drive away. Bishops Park pitch and putt is just up the road, about five minutes on foot.
For walking, you’re close to places like Dovestone Reservoir and Besom Hill Country Park. The National Trust page for Dovestone has good maps.
If you want a day out, the village of Uppermill is about ten minutes by car. Dobcross is a little further. Greenfield has a train station on the Manchester-Hadfield line. You can get a tram into Manchester from Oldham Mumps, which is about a five minute drive from the cottage.
The Peak District is under half an hour away by car. For official routes and park information, the Peak District National Park site is useful.
That’s about it. It’s a good spot if you want to be near the hills but still have Manchester within easy reach.
