This is Bwthyn Pen Bryn. It's a three-bedroom cottage in Aberdare, South Wales, near the edge of the Brecon Beacons. It sleeps six.
The cottage has a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable. There's one bathroom, which is a wet room on the ground floor. That's handy if stairs are a problem. One of the bedrooms is down there too. The other two are upstairs.
The main upstairs bedroom has a kingsize bed that can be split into two singles if you need it. The old stone staircase is still there. It's a nice feature but it is a cottage staircase, so mind your head and watch the steps.
There’s an enclosed garden. You can store bikes there if you bring them. The facilities are all the usual things: washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. You can bring up to two dogs.
The village of Hirwaun is a five-minute drive away. There's a pub there, and a shop. For walking, the Dare Valley Country Park is very close. Brecon Beacons National Park is about a 20-minute drive north.
If you want activities, Bike Park Wales is roughly 20 minutes away in Merthyr. Penderyn Distillery is about 15 minutes up the road towards the Beacons. Zip World Tower is at the old Tower Colliery, which is maybe a ten-minute drive.
Cardiff is about 45 minutes to an hour by car, depending on traffic. Useful links for planning: Visit Wales and the National Trust in Glamorgan.
