For walking, you're close to the Brecon Beacons. The Garwnant Visitor Centre is a good starting point, about a fifteen-minute drive. Pen y Fan is within half an hour. The waterfalls around Ystradfellte, like the Four Falls Walk, are also about thirty minutes by car.
The nearest big beaches are on the Gower or at Barry Island. They're about forty-five minutes to an hour's drive, depending on traffic.
