Glenkens Lodge

Glenkens Lodge is near Kendoon, in Dumfriesshire. It's a one bedroom place for two people. It's got a 4 Star rating, which is good.

I built it myself. It's a wooden lodge, detached, on the hill. The main thing is the view. You get a panoramic view over the Glenkens valley from inside and from the covered veranda. It's very quiet up here.

It's all open plan. Kitchen area, living space with a wood burner, and the bed at one end. There's an en-suite shower room. It's compact but it's been designed to use the space well.

The village of Dalry is a couple of miles away. There's a small shop, a pub that does food, and a restaurant. The Southern Upland Way long-distance path goes through there if you like walking.

For cycling, there are quiet roads. The 7stanes mountain bike tracks are within a 30 minute drive. The Galloway Forest Park is close by for walking and is a Dark Sky Park, so the stars at night are very clear.

Castle Douglas is about a 20 minute drive. It's a market town with nice food shops, cafes, and places to eat. The Solway coast is within half an hour, with sandy beaches and little harbours like Kippford.

In the lodge you've got a dishwasher, WiFi, TV, and bedding and towels are included. There's bike storage and parking right outside. No pets.
