Elizabeth Lodge

Elizabeth Lodge is on the edge of Alford village, off the main road. It's a detached bungalow, so it's all on the ground floor. The garden is your own bit of lawn. The drive is open to the road, which is fine for parking, but if you've got dogs or small children you'll want to keep an eye on them.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped. Being a bungalow, it's straightforward inside, no stairs. The front door and the rooms are level, so it works if someone has limited mobility.

You've got a living room with a woodburning stove for cooler nights, a separate dining space, and a kitchen with a dishwasher and washing machine. The WiFi is decent.

Alford itself has what you need. There's a co-op for groceries, a chemist, and a few places to eat. The Grampian Transport Museum is here, which is good for a wet afternoon. They've got vintage vehicles you can climb into.

The Alford Ski Centre has a dry slope if you fancy that. For walking, you're right on the edge of Royal Deeside. There's local fishing on the River Don. A few golf courses are nearby.

You can get to the Cairngorms in under half an hour for hill walking. The ski centres at the Lecht and Glenshee are about a 30 minute drive. Aberdeen is about 30 minutes the other way for a bigger city day out.

The place takes up to two dogs. Bedding and towels are included.
