The Old Cook House

The Old Cook House is a bungalow on our smallholding on the edge of Winchester. It's detached. You get the whole place and the garden to yourselves. It's quiet here, you mostly hear birds.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with two singles. One bathroom with a bath and a shower over it. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and clean. The living room has a fireplace, but it's not for use, it's just a feature.

There's a proper boot room, which is handy if you've got dogs or come back from a muddy walk. The garden is enclosed, so it's safe for dogs and kids. You can sit out there.

You can walk straight from the property. One way goes to a recreation ground with a kids' playground and tennis courts. The other way has walks with views of the cathedral. There's a supermarket about ten minutes' walk away.

Winchester city centre is a short drive. The cathedral is the main thing, and the Christmas market is busy but good. The Great Hall is worth a look for the Round Table. For days out, Marwell Zoo and the Winchester Science Centre are about fifteen minutes by car.

Further afield, within about half an hour, you've got the Watercress Line steam railway and Hinton Ampner gardens. Peppa Pig World, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, and places like Jane Austen's House are within about forty minutes.

Facilities: there's parking, WiFi, a washing machine, a dishwasher, and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. We allow up to two well-behaved dogs. There's a highchair if you need one.

About the name: it was the army cookhouse for the veterinary horse hospital here in the First World War. All the other army huts from then are gone, this is the last one.
