Hollywall Croft is near a village called Humber, in Herefordshire. I’ll say right away, it’s a rural cottage. It’s quiet. You’ll hear birds, not traffic.
The building is old. Timber framed, dates back a few hundred years. Everything is restored now. It’s detached, so no one else is attached to it. You have your own garden, which is nice for sitting out. There’s a brook at the bottom of the land with an old pack-horse bridge. The land around it is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, so the plants and wildlife are protected. That’s what gives it the ‘Unique’ tag.
Inside, it’s a sensible layout. Two bedrooms, so it sleeps four people. One bathroom with a shower. There’s a woodburning stove in the living room for cooler evenings. It’s got a 4 Star rating, which means it’s comfortable and well-equipped. You’ve got WiFi, a TV, a washing machine, a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. Parking for three cars.
Because it’s old, there are low beams in some places. Mind your head. The stairs are also typical cottage stairs, so they’re a bit steeper than modern ones.
The nearest shop and a pub are about a mile and a half away in Ford Bridge. There’s a golf course there too, with a restaurant. The main town is Leominster, about four miles. They have supermarkets and a leisure centre with a pool. Ludlow is a fifteen-minute drive. That’s good for restaurants and the castle. Other places like Hay-on-Wye, Hereford, or the Wye Valley are within half an hour by car.
One well-behaved dog is allowed. There’s a highchair and a cot if you need them.
If you’re looking for things to do, start with the National Trust and English Heritage websites for the area. They have maps and information for houses and walks: National Trust Herefordshire, English Heritage Places. For the wider region, Visit Wye Valley is useful.
