The Granary is on our farm in East Tytherton. It's detached. We converted it a few years ago, so it's quite spacious. You get four bedrooms and three bathrooms, so it sleeps seven people quite comfortably. It's got a 4 Star rating.
It used to be a real granary. We kept some of the old bits, like the beams and the pulley system for the grain bags. They're just there. The stairs are the original ones, so they're a bit steeper than in a modern house.
The place is all on one level inside, which makes it good for wheelchair access. There's a wet room and grab rails in one bathroom. The worktops in the kitchen are a bit lower than standard.
You've got your own garden. It's enclosed, which is handy if you're bringing a dog. We allow one well-behaved pet. The garden looks out over the fields. We keep chickens and pigs in their own enclosures further down the yard. Kids usually like to see them.
It's a working farm and we have horses, so you'll see tractors and trailers going about from time to day. It's quiet at night.
The location is useful. You're only about five miles from Junction 17 of the M4, but it feels properly rural. There's a decent pub that does food about two miles away. The nearest shop for a proper supermarket is in Chippenham, about three miles.
For walks, there are plenty of footpaths right from the door. The Wiltshire and Berkshire Canal towpath is nearby for a flat, easy walk or cycle.
If you want to go out for the day, Lacock village is about a 15-minute drive. It's a National Trust place and they've filmed a lot there. Castle Combe is similar and about 20 minutes away. Chippenham is our nearest town for shops. Bradford-on-Avon is nice, about half an hour. Bath is a must if you haven't been. It's Roman baths and Georgian buildings. That's about a 25-minute drive.
For bigger days out, Stonehenge is under half an hour. So is Avebury stone circle, which you can actually walk around. Bowood House has good gardens and a big play area for children.
Facilities: All the bedding and towels are included. There's a washing machine, dishwasher, TV, and WiFi. Parking is right next to the cottage.
