Lobster Ponds

It's called Lobster Ponds and it's in East Helmsdale, up in the Scottish Highlands. It's a detached house, so you're on your own, and it's right on the shoreline. The main view is just sea. It's quite something.

It sleeps ten, has five bedrooms and three bathrooms. It's a 5 Star place, which means it's in good decorative order and well-equipped. The main living room and the big kitchen diner both look straight out over the bay. There's another living room upstairs, built like an observatory with a balcony. You can stand out there and watch the birds and the sea.

You can walk for miles along the shore straight from the house. Helmsdale village is about 500 yards away. It's an unspoilt sort of place with a harbour, a few shops, a pub and some restaurants. The beaches around here are quiet and rugged. People find fossils on them.

If you're driving, Dunrobin Castle is about 15 minutes north. It looks like a fairy tale castle. Further north, you've got the Castle of Mey and John O' Groats. The Orkney ferry goes from Scrabster, which is roughly an hour's drive. The National Trust for Scotland page for Dunrobin has good visitor information.

Locally, you can go golfing, fishing, hill-walking, or try panning for gold in the Helmsdale river. The surfing is at places like Brora, about 15 minutes south.

The house has a games room, a dishwasher, a washing machine, WiFi, and parking. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. You can bring up to three pets.
