Ballygroggan is a farmhouse near Machrihanish. It's on a working sheep farm, up a long single-track road. You're high up, so the views are big.
It sleeps twelve. Six bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's a four star, so it's comfortable but don't expect anything ultra-modern. It's an old house, so the layout is what it is.
You look straight out over the sea to the islands of Islay, Jura, and Gigha. On a very clear day you can see Northern Ireland. There's a stony beach, Gauldrons Bay, just below the house where seals live.
It's a windy spot. The broadband is satellite and it depends on the weather. We've put in an extra tall fridge and a tall freezer because with twelve people you need the space.
Down the hill, about two miles, is Machrihanish village. There's a pub that does food, a fantastic sandy beach, and the famous golf course. The Kintyre Way walking route goes right past the farm.
Campbeltown is about nine miles away. It's got supermarkets, some good restaurants, and whisky shops. There are ferries from there and an airport.
You can park at the house. There's a garden with a barbecue. Bedding and towels are included. We allow one well-behaved dog. The entrance is wheelchair accessible but the house itself isn't, due to the nature of the building.
There are other great golf courses within a half hour drive, like Machrie and Dunaverty. For planning wider trips, the National Trust for Scotland and Wild About Argyll sites are useful.
