Ballygroggan Farmhouse is a working sheep farm up on the hill above Machrihanish. The road up is single track and winding. It feels quite remote. You're on your own up there.
The house is Victorian and big, sleeps twelve in six bedrooms. There are two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. The place is warm and dry, which you'll appreciate if the weather turns. It's a good spot for a big group to hunker down.
The views are the main thing. You look straight out over the sea to the islands of Islay, Jura, and Gigha. On a very clear day, you can see the coast of Northern Ireland. Gauldrons Bay is just below, which is a stony beach. There's usually a group of seals there.
The farm track goes right through the yard and connects to the Kintyre Way, so you can walk straight from the door. The hills behind are proper walking country.
Machrihanish village is about two miles down the hill. It's got a great beach, a pub that does food, and a famous golf course. There are four other good courses within about twenty miles.
Campbeltown is the main town, about nine miles away. It has supermarkets, shops, restaurants, and its whisky shops. There's a ferry terminal and an airport there too.
Inside, there's a woodburning stove, a dishwasher, washing machine, and WiFi. The broadband is satellite so it can be patchy if the weather's bad. We've put an extra fridge and a separate freezer in the utility and boot room. The entrance is step-free so it's suitable for wheelchair access. You can bring one dog.
