West Bothy

West Bothy is in Laga, on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. It's a detached house, not attached to anything. The architects who built it were friends of mine, they designed it to be simple and to fit in. The main window looks out over Loch Sunart towards Carna island and the hills.

It sleeps three. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's well-equipped and comfortable. Everything is on one level, so no stairs to worry about.

It's a proper remote spot. You're down a private drive. The nearest shop and pub is about five miles away in Acharacle. There's a good tearoom at Glenborrodale, about four miles. For a meal out, the Salen Hotel is seven miles.

The place is really for being outside. You can walk straight down to the shore from the garden. We see otters there regularly. You can drive out to Ardnamurchan Point, which is the most westerly bit of mainland Britain. Sanna Bay is out that way too, it's a beautiful white sand beach. For a trip, you can get the passenger ferry from Salen over to Tobermory on Mull. The car ferry to Mull goes from Kilchoan, which is further along the peninsula.

If you want to explore further, Mallaig is about an hour's drive. You can get ferries from there to the Small Isles like Rum and Eigg, or over to Skye.

In the house, there's an open plan living area with a woodburning stove. It has a dishwasher and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right outside. We can provide a cot and a highchair. No pets, sorry.
