Capercaillie Cottage is our place up at Dalreavoch. It's on our working croft, so you'll see sheep and cattle about. It's an old stone building, about 200 years old, and you get to it down a track. It feels very separate up there.
It sleeps four in two bedrooms, but they're in separate buildings. One bedroom is in the main cottage. The other is in a converted stone barn about twenty metres away. Both have their own bathrooms. The barn room has the better view straight down the glen.
The main living space is all one room, with a kitchen at one end and sofas at the other. There's a big wood burner. The stairs to the mezzanine bedroom are a steep ladder. The door from the kitchen into the ground floor bedroom is very low because of the thick stone wall, so most people go round via the outside decking to get to it. That bedroom has a claw-foot bath in it, not just the en-suite.
There's a hot tub on the raised decking outside the front door. The deck looks over a small ornamental pond and then miles of hills. You're welcome to walk on our land if you check with us first. We often see red deer and lots of birds.
The village of Rogart is about four miles down the road. It has a pub that does food, a shop, and a train station. Dornoch is about a twenty minute drive. It's a nice town with a good beach and a famous golf course. For a big day out, Dunrobin Castle is about half an hour's drive.
The cottage has a 4 Star rating. It's got everything: WiFi, TV, washing machine, dishwasher. All bedding and towels are included. We allow up to three well-behaved dogs. The parking is right there.
