Capercaillie Cottage

Capercaillie Cottage is on our croft at Dalreavoch, up a track in the Sutherland hills. It's a two hundred year old stone building with a tin roof. We live and work the land here, you'll see sheep and cattle about.

It sleeps four in two bedrooms, but they're separate. One bedroom is in a converted stone barn about twenty metres from the main cottage. The other is in the cottage itself, up a steep ladder staircase on a mezzanine. There's a second double bed on the ground floor, but the doorways into that room are very low because of the stone walls. It's easier to use the outside walkway to get to it. That room has a freestanding bath in it as well as its own ensuite. There's another shower room too, so two bathrooms in total.

The main room is open plan with a wood burner and a kitchen. We've tried to keep it comfortable, there are leather sofas and the appliances are decent. It's a 4 Star place. Outside there's a deck with a hot tub, and about an acre of ground. There's an ornamental pond just below the deck.

You're welcome to walk on the croft, just check with us first. We've got red deer, pine martens, and plenty of birds. The village of Rogart is four miles away, it has a pub that does food, a shop, and a train station.

Dornoch is about a twenty minute drive. Nice beach and a championship golf course there. For castles, Dunrobin Castle isn't far. If you're keen on history or walking, the Historic Environment Scotland site has good information, and Walkhighlands covers the local routes.

Facilities: there's parking, an electric vehicle charger, WiFi, TV, a washing machine, dishwasher. We can provide a cot and highchair. Pets are welcome. Bedding and towels are included.
