Ramerish Retreat

Ramerish Retreat is in Laurieston, out towards Dumfries. It's a converted stable block, so it's got thick walls. It sits by itself, so it's quiet.

It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, one bathroom. The rating is 5 Star, which means it's been done to a high standard. It's wheelchair accessible at the entrance.

The main thing here is the location. It's right in the middle of the Galloway Dark Sky Park. On a clear night, you don't need any special equipment to see the stars. It's properly dark. During the day, you're on the edge of Galloway Forest Park. You can walk straight out the door onto forest paths.

There's a small observatory hut in the garden with bird books and feeders. You often see red kites. For dogs, there's a dedicated washing area with a heated shower and towels provided. You can bring two pets.

Loch Ken is about ten minutes away by car. They do water sports there like sailing and canoeing, and there's an adventure park. You can fish on Lochanbreck Loch or Loch Ken, but you'll need a day permit.

The nearest proper shop and pub is about six miles away in Castle Douglas or Gatehouse of Fleet. Castle Douglas is known for food shops. Kirkcudbright is the other way, about a twenty-minute drive. It's got a nice harbour and art galleries. The coast and a beach are about thirteen miles.

Inside, it's open plan. There's a wood burner, a dishwasher, washing machine, and TV with WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. Parking is right outside.
