Stables Cottage

Stables Cottage is in Fitling. It’s in the grounds of our house, but set apart so you’ve got your own space. It’s a single-storey conversion of an old stables, which means you get vaulted ceilings and original wooden beams. The floor is stone.

The front door opens into the bedroom. It’s right there. You’ve got a double bed, and a large en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath. There’s a Velux window in the bedroom that lets in a lot of light.

Down a few steps is the main living area. It’s open-plan, with a kitchen at one end and a sitting area with a wood burner at the other. We leave some logs to get you started. The kitchen has the basics: an oven, hob, fridge, and a dishwasher. There’s a TV.

Outside, there’s a small patio area with a bench and a barbecue. It’s private.

The cottage has a 4 Star rating. It’s all on one level except for the couple of steps down into the living area. The shower is over the bath, so you have to step in.

You can bring up to two dogs. There’s bicycle storage if you need it. All the bedding and towels are included. There’s a washing machine, a cot, and a highchair. Parking is right outside the cottage.

The local pub is about half a mile away. They do food. The nearest shop is about four miles away, in Roos.

You’re about three miles from the coast at Mappleton. It’s a good, sandy beach for dogs. Hornsea is a bit further along. If you like birdwatching, Hornsea Mere is good, and the RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs is about a 40-minute drive.

Hull is 12 miles away. It’s a good day out. The Deep aquarium is there, and the old town has the Maritime Museum and Wilberforce House. Beverley is about half an hour’s drive. The Minster is worth seeing, and the town has nice cafes and shops.

For planning days out, these sites are useful: East Yorkshire Coastal Countryside, RSPB Bempton Cliffs, and The Deep.
