Garlies Lodge is in Bargrennan, in the southern part of Dumfries and Galloway. It's a detached house set in its own five acres of land. The views are towards the Galloway hills.
The house sleeps ten people. Five bedrooms, four bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and spacious, not a period cottage. Everything is on one level except for one bedroom in a converted loft space. The stairs to that room are a ship's ladder, so they're quite steep and not suitable for everyone.
The main thing about the place is the building in the garden, called The Bothy. It's got a pool table, a dartboard, and a snug area with an open fire. There's a covered patio with a barbecue. It's a good space for a group, especially if the weather isn't great.
You can walk or cycle straight from the door into the hills. The Glentrool mountain biking centre is very close. The Merrick, the highest hill in southern Scotland, isn't far for a more serious walk. The market town Newton Stewart is about eight miles away. It has shops, a supermarket that delivers, a golf course, and a swimming pool.
The area has a lot of golf if that's your thing. There are also good beaches along the coast, about a 30-minute drive. The climate is mild here, so the gardens are often worth visiting. The Culzean Castle estate is roughly half an hour's drive away, up towards Ayrshire.
For facilities: all bedding and towels are included. There's a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking on site. There's also an electric vehicle charger. We accept up to two dogs.
