The Orangerie

The Orangerie is up near Glentrool in Dumfriesshire. It's a converted barn, so it's detached and on its own.

It's a one-bedroom place, sleeps two. Really set up for a couple. There's one bathroom with a shower. It's got a five star rating, so it's well equipped.

The main thing is the location. It's right in the Galloway Forest Park. You get big views of the hills out the windows. Because of the dark skies status, on a clear night you can just stand outside and see everything. There's no light pollution.

Downstairs, there's a woodburning stove. It heats the place up well. There's also a little private bar area, which people seem to like. Outside on the deck is an American hot tub.

It's very secluded. The nearest proper shop is about eight miles away in Newton Stewart, so you need to come prepared. There's a local pub about a mile and a half down the road. They do food.

If you're walking or cycling, you're already in it. The forest tracks start from the door. For coastal stuff, you're looking at about a half hour drive to places like Portpatrick. The Southern Scotland site has good ideas.

Facilities are all there: a dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, TV, and parking right outside. Bedding and towels are included. No pets.
