Meall Darroch is a detached cottage in Inverey, right on the bank of the River Dee. It's a bit out of the way, down a single-track road, so you feel properly in the countryside. The nearest shop and pub are in Braemar, about four miles up the road.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and clean, not luxurious. It's been modernised so it's warm and everything works. There's an open fire, which we'll leave logs for.
The garden is yours to use. It slopes down towards the river. You can sit out there with a coffee in the morning. It's very quiet, just the sound of the water.
Facilities wise: it's got everything you'd need. Washing machine, dishwasher, TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. You can park right outside. We take one well-behaved dog.
It's walking country. You can step out the door and head straight up into the hills. For a drive, you're close to Braemar and the Linn of Dee is just along the valley. The Cairngorms National Park is all around you. Balmoral is about a 30-minute drive, and you can get to the ski centre at Glenshee in roughly the same time.
