Brightwater Cottage

Brightwater Cottage is in Arnisdale, on Loch Hourn. It's a simple two bedroom place that sleeps four. It's got one bathroom.

It's got a three star rating. That means it's clean and it works, but it's not luxury. The furniture is what you'd expect. There's a wood burning stove, which is nice in the evening. The garden is enclosed, which is good if you have dogs.

The location is the main thing. You're right on the loch side. The view from the front looks over the water to Knoydart and across to Skye. It's very quiet. You'll hear the weather more than anything else.

Arnisdale itself is just a few houses. For a shop and a pub, you drive to Glenelg, which is about nine miles along the single track road. They have a small ferry to Skye from there too. Kyle of Lochalsh is about an hour's drive if you need bigger supermarkets.

It's good for walking straight from the door. You can follow the track along the loch. For serious hill walking, Beinn Sgritheall is right behind you. It's a proper mountain. You can drive to Shiel Bridge in about 30 minutes to get to the Five Sisters of Kintail.

You're in the middle of good sea kayaking and wildlife spotting country. We've seen otters from the window. You can get boat trips from Mallaig, which is about 40 minutes away, to see the seals.

The road in is single track with passing places. You need to be comfortable with that. There's parking for one car.

We allow up to two well behaved dogs. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. Bedding is included. There's a washing machine and a TV.
