The Fisherman's Cottage

The Fisherman's Cottage is in Applecross. It's a small white house right on the edge of the water. You look straight out at the bay from the front windows.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms upstairs, one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, which is about right. It's clean and has what you need, but it's an old place. The stairs are steep. They're original, so you have to mind your head a bit.

The kitchen is the old farmhouse style with the original oven still there. It works fine. There's a fridge, freezer, washing machine, and a new hob. You can make a proper meal. The sitting room has an open fire. We leave coal for it.

The bathroom upstairs has been done up. It's a walk-in shower and there's underfloor heating, which is good because it can be chilly.

You can bring one dog. There's a small patio area right across the lane, practically on the beach. Good for sitting with a drink.

The village has a shop for basics and two pubs. The Applecross Inn is about a five minute walk. They do good food. For a bigger shop, you need to go to Lochcarron or even Inverness before you come. The road in, the Bealach na Bà, is single track with passing places. It's quite an experience. If you don't fancy the pass, you can come the long way round on the coast road.

You're right on the NC500 route here. For walking, you can start from the door. The National Trust for Scotland's Torridon is about half an hour's drive, and it's spectacular. The Beinn Eighe mountain range is there too.

In terms of what's here: all bedding and towels are included, there's parking for one car, WiFi, and a TV. No smart TV, just normal Freeview. The signal can be patchy sometimes, to be honest.
