Burray

This is Burray. It's up in Mey, by the very top of Scotland. It's a lodge, not a cottage. You can see Orkney from the windows, right across the Pentland Firth. The view is the main thing.

It sleeps three. Two bedrooms, one's a double, the other a single. There's one bathroom with a walk-in shower. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's well looked after and comfortable. Everything's on one level, which is handy.

You can bring a dog, one big one or two small ones. The garden is enclosed, which helps. There's a deck with seats and a hot tub. We've left a telescope up there. On a clear night, you might see the Northern Lights, but no promises.

The Castle of Mey is just along the road. That's where the Royal Family stay when they're up here. John o' Groats is about five miles away. You can get the ferry to Orkney from there if you want a day trip.

For shops, a pub, or a restaurant, you'll need to drive about five miles. It's remote, so you come here for the quiet and the space. You can walk to the beach. For other things, the area's good for walking, cycling, fishing, or golf. There are distillery tours if that's your thing.

Inside, it's open plan. There's a kitchen, a dining bit, and a sitting area with a smart TV that has Netflix. There's an electric fire for warmth. It's all fairly new and works well.

For more on the area, the Castle of Mey has its own site. For wider plans, North Highlands Scotland is useful.
