Elms Cottage

Elms Cottage is in Sadberge, a village near Darlington. It’s a two-bedroom cottage that sleeps six people. There are two bedrooms upstairs. One has a double bed and then the second bedroom is larger with a double bed and two singles. There’s one family bathroom. The cottage has a 4 Star rating.

It’s set back from the road with its own private garden and off-road parking for two cars. The garden is enclosed. It’s a mix of grass and patio, with outdoor seating. You get the feeling of being in the village but it’s quiet.

The location is good for getting places. You’re just off the A1 and A66, so it’s easy to drive into Darlington in about ten minutes, or head out into the countryside.

In the village, there’s a community-run coffee shop in the village hall that does breakfast and snacks on weekdays. There are two pubs on the green, both serve food. One is more of a gastro pub, the other is a proper local. They’re both friendly.

Darlington has the usual big supermarkets and shops if you need them. The town centre has a market, restaurants, and a cinema.

Within half an hour’s drive you’ve got a few choices. Richmond is a nice historic town with a castle and a river walk. Barnard Castle is similar, with the ruins and The Bowes Museum is worth a visit. If you fancy the coast, you can get to Saltburn-by-the-Sea in under thirty minutes. It’s a Victorian seaside town with a cliff lift, a long pier, and a good beach. Whitby is a bit further, maybe forty-five minutes, but it’s a full day out with the abbey, the harbour, and all the history.

Inside, the cottage has a TV, WiFi, and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring one well-behaved dog. The front door and ground floor are accessible for a wheelchair, but the bedrooms and bathroom are upstairs and the stairs are standard cottage stairs.

For planning days out, these sites are useful: Yorkshire Dales National Park and National Trust North East.
