The Old Croft House is near Strontian on the Ardnamurchan peninsula. It’s a single-storey cottage, so everything’s on the ground floor. It’s detached and you get the garden to yourselves.
It’s for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It’s got a 3 Star rating. It’s clean, warm, and straightforward rather than luxurious. Because it’s all on one level and the entrance is step-free, it suits people with limited mobility, but you should check the specific measurements if you use a wheelchair.
The cottage was a blackhouse, which is the old sort of crofter’s cottage. It’s been done up inside. There’s a wood-burning stove for heat and atmosphere. Outside, there’s a patio area with seating and a barbecue. The views from the garden are over the glen. There’s a shed for storing bikes or wet outdoor gear.
The hamlet here, Anaheilt, is quiet. Strontian village is a short drive away. It’s got a shop, a couple of places to eat, a pub, and a post office. There’s a visitor centre for the Ariundle Oakwoods nearby if you like walking in ancient woodland.
For a proper beach, Sanna Bay is about a 40-minute drive. The sand is white and the dunes are impressive. Ardtoe is a bit closer, maybe half an hour. You can often see otters and sea eagles along the loch shore here. Deer are common. The Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, at the very tip of the peninsula, is about an hour’s drive.
Facilities: WiFi, TV, parking on site. Bedding and towels are included. There’s a washing machine. No pets.
